How to Activate a Key in the Happ App

Without a key or subscription link, Happ simply won't reach a server — but activating one in the app takes just a couple of taps.

Key vs. subscription link: what's the difference

A key is a string of parameters that ties the client to your account and the service's servers. A subscription link works similarly but can refresh the server list on its own, with no manual steps needed on your end.

  • Both are issued only through the service Telegram bot
  • You can't generate a key from inside the Happ app itself — only through the bot
  • One key usually works across several of your devices at once

For how to get one, see the Happ Telegram bot article.

Where to find the add-key screen

Happ opens the add-key screen automatically on first launch. If the app is already set up, you can add another key from the main screen.

  • Look for a plus-shaped button in the interface — that's usually what handles adding a key or subscription
  • Depending on the version, the screen may read "Add configuration" or "Add subscription"
  • The steps are identical on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone, and Smart TV

Activating the key step by step

The process itself doesn't change from device to device.

  • Copy the key or link from the Telegram bot's message
  • In Happ, tap the add-key button
  • Paste the copied text into the field
  • Confirm — the app will pull in the server list

Confirming the key actually worked

Before you try connecting, it's worth checking that the key was accepted.

  • At least one entry should appear in the server list
  • The number and names of servers depend on your plan
  • Connect to any server on the list — a "connected" status confirms everything was added correctly

Key won't add? What to check

Sometimes it doesn't work the first time, and it's almost always the key text itself or its expiration.

  • Make sure you copied the whole key, with no stray spaces at either end
  • Check whether it's expired — current plans are listed on the Happ pricing page
  • If the error keeps happening, request a fresh key from the bot

More causes and fixes are on the Happ not connecting page.
